When should I order a monument?

Deciding when to order a monument can be a confusing and stressful decision. With so much information and conflicting advice out there, it can be hard to find straight answers. Our aim is to give you some help and guidance before you get started.

Some customers opt for ordering a “pre need” monument for themselves. This can be a great way lessen to load for your loved ones. Pre need markers are simply engraved with just the birthdate, the death date is added later using a mobile sandblasting machine.

The biggest thing to remember is that there’s no rush when it comes to ordering a monument or marker.  Funeral homes want to sell a marker as a part of the funeral arrangements. While this can be a convenient option for some people, it’s far from your only opportunity to purchase a monument.

There’s nothing wrong with holding off.

Either way, be sure to take some time to figure out the design and style you want.  Take some time to walk around a cemetery for ideas on stone size, shape, and color.

If you’re in the Madison area, take a walk around Forest Hill Cemetery.
