Markers, Monuments, and Memorial Benches

Slant and Bevel Markers

Marker headstones are carved from granite slabs in many different colors. Markers are usually installed directly on a concrete foundation instead of on a granite base like a traditional upright monument.

Beveled markers have a slanted face and are a beautiful option for a single or double cemetery plot. Flat markers can be used for individual gravesites and are either mounted on a small concrete foundation or flush with the ground.

There are many different colors of granite you can choose for a beveled or flat marker, there’s no wrong choice. The most popular color option is natural white, which is a light grey hue with white and dark grey variations.

Monuments

Early grave monuments were often made from rough, natural fieldstone. Now days, monuments can be made of granite, marble, or limestone. Marble and limestone have been popular choices but these stones slowly dissolve and wear over time.

Historically, families shared one large monument and added the names of relatives over the years. Just one piece of stone could hold decades of a family’s history!

Prior to the 1900’s headstones were extremely simple: name, birth date, death date.  In the twentieth century people began adding Bible verses, illustrations or short epitaph in order to individualize the marker

Other Projects

Stonework is about more than traditional gravesite monuments. With our family’s decades of design experience, we can stay flexible to every unique request.

Handmade granite urns can be designed with custom engraving. Memorial benches, made from granite, can be a wonderful alternative to a standard marker design.
